Ypres: 2014 Events

Between 2014 and 2018, a range of events are scheduled for the centenary of the First World War. A range of different events will be held in Ypres, in the Westhoek region, in Flanders and in the international front zone in order to properly commemorate the First World War. The driving force behind these events will be the term Tourism +.

Almost 100 years ago, the area around Ypres was the setting for one of the bloodiest conflicts in history.
Now that the last witnesses are no longer with us, the In Flanders Fields museum has become an even more important entry point for the history of the First World War in Flanders.
The In Flanders Fields museum will bring visitors face to face with the consequences of the Great War.
Both young and old can find out about life and death on the front at Ypres.
The exhibition, with poignant video projections, exclusive audio extracts and state of the art multimedia applications, will plunge you right into life on the front. Each visitor will receive a 'poppy' bracelet enabling them to discover four personal stories of ‘ordinary citizens’ during the Great War. Once you are connected, you will be put in contact with a person just like you, who lived through the war a hundred years ago.
